For the Price family in the Poisonwood Bible, the family has a lack of freedom because Nathan Price, the father always tries to become the leader of the family. Nathan Price only tries to have freedom himself. Although Nathan Price from the Price family is taking care of the family as a father, he doesn't really have a good respect toward his family. This fact relates to the themes which are related to love because respect toward family members is almost the same thing as love. For example, when the whole family is facing very hard difficulties in Congo, then even Nathan wanted to get out of Congo.
From the Congo's political history, there are themes which are related to captivity of freedom because there were some dictators in the Congolese history who tried to take away their citizens' rights. For example, Mobutu Sese Seke made a strict law in which all citizens have to where a specific kind of clothing. There were also lots of rebellions occurring in some parts of Africa because there were certain people who were fighting for becoming dictators. There were many people who were killed due to rebellions in Congo and this incident seems related to love because when there are too many people killed, it seems like love is not occurring.
When there was an assassination which occurred to Patrice Lumumba, I think there was a theme which was related to love and betrayal because the CIA seemed like a betrayer toward Patrice Lumumba. This incident might also be related to love because the citizens might have felt very sad that Patrice Lumumba got killed by the CIA. Patrice Lumumba actually wanted to get voted from the election because he wanted to show love and sympathy toward the citizens in Africa. Lumumba might have felt very betrayed toward the CIA.
