3/25/13 Great Gatsby- Chapter 7
Why does Gatsby stop giving parties?-
-Gatsby stops giving parties because he met Daisy now.
When does Tom first realize that Daisy loves Gatsby?
p.116 ,119
-Tom first realizes that Daisy loves Gatsby when Daisy said "Ah, you look so cool." to Gatsby.
Why is Myrtle Wilson upset when she sees Tom and Jordan?
-p.124
Tom had discovered that Myrtle had some sort of life apart from him in another world, and the shock had made him physically sick.
How does Gatsby characterize Daisy’s voice? What do you think he means by this?
p.116, 119, 120
-Gatsby characterized Daisy's voice by saying that her voice is full of money. I think he means that she loves him too much.
Why does Tom insist that Daisy go home with Gatsby? What do you think this tells us about Tom's character and his relationship with Daisy?
-p.135
Tom insists that Daisy would go home with Gatsby because he didn't really like her that time. I think this tells that Tom is a person who gets angry a bit easily. This seems like his relationship with Daisy is not really that good.
What indications are there are the end of the chapter that Tom and Daisy are going to stay together despite his philandering and her love for Gatsby?
-p.144, 145
Indications where Daisy and Tom were sitting opposite each other at the kitchen table and Tom was talking intently across the table at her, and in his earnestness his hand had fallen upon and covered her own. Once in a while she looked up at him and nodded in agreement.
At the end of the chapter, Gatsby is standing alone, looking out at Daisy’s house. Where else in the novel does he do this? How is this different?
-p.145
Gatsby also does this in Chapter 1. It's different because Daisy now knows more about Gatsby. For example, Daisy is not trying to leave him and Gatsby tries to protect her now.
